Wave Resin Acacia Cutting Board

Acacia wood cut through with a river of coloured resin, poured and sanded flush so the surface runs smooth from end to end. The resin catches light the way shallow water does, which is where the ocean comparison comes from, and it makes the board work as a serving piece long before anyone puts food on it. Acacia is a sensible choice for a board. It is dense enough to resist scoring, kind to knife edges, and naturally resistant to moisture, which is why it turns up so often in kitchens that actually get used. At 46 by 23 cm there is room for a full cheese course, a loaf and a knife, or the components of a charcuterie board, and it is light enough to carry out to a garden table.

Treat it as you would any wooden board: hand wash in warm water, dry it standing on edge, and oil it occasionally with food-safe mineral oil to keep the grain from drying out. Avoid the dishwasher and prolonged soaking, both of which will lift the resin over time.
