Vintage Ribbed Glass Mushroom Lamp

A domed glass shade over a matching base, ribbed vertically so the surface breaks the light into a series of soft vertical bands. The mushroom silhouette is pure mid-century, and the ribbing is what lifts it above the many plain versions of the same shape.

Because the glass is coloured and textured rather than clear, the lamp has presence during the day as well as at night. Lit, the ribs cast a faint fluted pattern onto the wall behind it, and the glass diffuses the LED completely so there is no hotspot to catch the eye from a pillow. Brightness is adjustable, which matters for something intended to sit on a nightstand.

At 15 cm across and 18 cm tall it is small enough to share a bedside table with a book and a glass of water, and it comes in amber, smoke grey and white. The LED is included and it runs on standard mains at 110 to 220 V. Glass is fragile: place it where it will not be knocked off the edge, and clean it with a soft damp cloth rather than anything abrasive.
