Splitting kindling with an axe is the most common way people hurt themselves preparing a fire, because the hand holding the wood ends up in the same place as the blade. This splitter removes that problem entirely: the wood sits inside a steel ring over a fixed blade, you strike the top of the log with a mallet or another piece of wood, and both hands stay well clear.

The blade is carbon steel, hardened and ground so it parts seasoned logs rather than crushing them, and the surrounding ring keeps the wood upright and contained so pieces do not fly across the yard. Two sizes are available: the small one suits kindling and fire-lighting sticks for a stove or a chiminea, the large one takes the fatter logs you would otherwise be swinging an axe at.
