Industrial Hand Wall Lamp

A cast resin hand emerging from the wall, holding the bulb where a conventional sconce would have a shade. It is a deliberately theatrical piece, the kind of fitting that anchors a wall on its own and needs nothing hung around it, and it has become a fixture of loft interiors, bars and restaurants for exactly that reason.

The detail in the casting is what carries it: the knuckles, the tendons and the set of the fingers all read clearly at normal viewing distance, and the matte resin takes light the way plaster does rather than looking like moulded plastic. At 14.5 by 10 by 9 cm it projects modestly, so it works in a hallway or beside a bed without being in the way.

The bulb is left to you, which is the right call here: a vintage Edison filament bulb in the E26 fitting is what completes the look, and the exposed bulb is part of the design rather than something to hide. Left and right hand versions are available, so a pair can be mirrored either side of a bed or a doorway. It is hard-wired at 110 to 240 V, so have an electrician install it unless you are qualified.
